MORRISTOWN, Indiana – Fifteen antique tractors from John Deer to Allis-Chalmers lined the front parking lot of Morristown Jr-Sr. High School Saturday for first Morristown FFA Alumni tractor drive.

“Months of planning and organization lead up to the event,” said Morristown FFA Alumni President Kaitlin Nigh.

Around 9 a.m. the small, quiet town of Morristown came to life with the roars of tractor engines as community members, FFA Alumni and Morristown Jr.-Sr. High School students departed.

Nigh commented the drive was organized to have impact on the local FFA chapter and its members:

“… the hope is to get this established for years to come, the sponsorship money and the funds we raise here today will go right back into scholarships the alumni are sponsoring for FFA members.”

Drivers and their tractors departed Morristown Jr.-Sr. High School and drove through Hancock county’s countryside. In addition, several stops along the way, allowing drivers and their tractors to break for shade and lunch on a local farm, before returning back to Morristown.

The Morristown FFA Alumni partnered with many community businesses to help make the drive a successful one not only financially but physically. Donations of t-shirts and signage just to name a few.

“Our hope (as an organization) is that these kids can see us working as a team, understand the importance that Alumni plays in the chapter and how we can all come together to promote agricultural education and FFA.” added Nigh.

When asked if they would continue the event Nigh added: “I would absolutely love to, it’s a lot of hard work and takes a lot of hard working people to pull this off, but I would love to see around for years to come.”

FFA members even showed up early for a quick photo that is to be featured in a local John Deere implements calendar.
