My name is Nathan DeYoung. I am Senior at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I am a Telecommunications major with a concentration in news and Meteorology major. I am also earning a minor in Sustainability and Emergency Management.
Weather, broadcasting, leadership and technology are my passions. I am a very goal oriented person who enjoys working with others for a common goal; while having fun along the way. I have always enjoyed working with technology, assisting people and watching the weather. Since I was little, I have always wanted to go into broadcasting, specifically weather.
I have a wide variety of experience from my work in mass communications. I have spent the past four and half years developing an exceptional supervised agricultural experience in Agricultural Communications – Entrepreneurship via the National FFA Organization. I have designed and maintained eight websites, produced 29 videos, written 32 articles for print publications, done numerous podcasts, and extensive work with social media. I have taken over 7,100 pictures in the course of my program and developed 226 graphic design projects for the Indiana State Fair.
I have been fortunate to become involved with Ball State University's Unified Media during my freshman year as a commuter student. I worked as Weather Forecaster for NewsLink Indiana and now have added the position of Social Media Producer. I am also the Assistant Chief Weather Forecaster at 91.3 FM WCRD. Unified Media provides journalism and media students with amazing opportunities to gain real-world experience by collaborating over multiple media platforms.
I am involved with three media and geography related extra-curricular activities on campus. Ball State Storm Chase Team is an organization that is student-run, in which focuses on storm safety, chasing and analyst. I am also serving a Commuter Ambassador for 2016-17 for the University. I will be assisting first-time commuter students and help them make the transition to the university. I was also proud to be named one of Ball State's Louis Ingelhart Journalism Scholars.
After I graduate from college, it is my goal to work for a news and media agency and focus on my passion for meteorology and journalism. I am interested in the traditional and agriculture broadcasting concentrations.
